INDIVIDUALS
No job is too small! If you are performing the work yourself we are happy to answer any questions you might have. If not, we are happy to provide you with trusted contractors. Either way, we appreciate your business. Below is some basic information that might help you get started!
CEMENT
Powder that is added to rock and sand to make "concrete" when activated by water. Often, people mistakenly refer to concrete as “cement”. That would be like ordering a hamburger by saying, "I’d like a beef patty."
BAG MIX
This simply refers to how many bags of cement powder there are in 1 yard of concrete. An order is typically placed as 5-bag (3,000 psi) or 6-bag (4,000 psi). 5-bag is typically used for footings, foundations and postholes. 6-bag is typically used when you are going to finish the surface such as a driveway, sidewalk or patio.
SLUMP
This refers to how wet or dry the concrete mix is. To test the concrete a sample is placed into a form in the shape of a cone. As the form is removed the concrete will "slump." The distance the concrete slumps is measured in inches. A 4" slump means that the concrete dropped that many inches when the form was removed. It is advised that a 5" maximum slump is used to maintain quality. A post-hole or footing (3") would tend to be dryer than a driveway or patio (4").
